Four things worth knowing before you read further

Nothing you choose at Class 10 is permanent. A diploma holder can become an engineer. An Arts graduate can enter the civil services, and so can a Science graduate. A trade certificate can lead to a degree. Doors reopen far more often than families fear, though some reopen more easily than others, and this book tells you which.

The entrance exam matters as much as the course. For most professional courses your Class 12 marks alone are not enough. There is a separate test, it is usually taken in the same year you finish PUC, and preparation begins well before that. The chapter "Entrance exams, explained plainly" explains every exam you might need.

Recognition is the thing to check, not the brochure. Every course in this book has a body that regulates it — the National Medical Commission, the Indian Nursing Council, the All India Council for Technical Education, the National Council for Vocational Training, and others. Before paying any college anything, confirm on that regulator's own website that the college and the course are recognised. A degree from an unrecognised institution is not a degree.

A road being unfamiliar does not make it worse. Most families know three or four of the fifty pathways in this book. That is not their fault; nobody ever showed them the rest. You are holding the rest.
