Mechanical Diploma
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering · 3 Years
Year one on a shop floor can feel like only watching; the curious become supervisors.
You already take machines apart at home, and you like seeing what you worked on take shape the same day. Mechanical suits students who are careful about measurement and comfortable in a noisy workshop rather than an office.
Most of your day is on the shop floor, not at a desk: setting up jobs, checking the first piece off a machine, measuring, and working out why a batch has started coming out wrong. Expect to be put on shifts early.
Jobs follow factories, so be realistic about where you will live. There is a ladder to climb, though: on CNC machines it runs operator, setter, programmer, and experienced toolmakers are consistently in short supply.
