What has changed since you chose

If you are working from your own experience of school, some of it no longer holds.

Entrance exams decide most professional admissions now, not board marks. A student with excellent Class 12 marks and no entrance rank does not get an engineering or medical seat. Preparation for those exams starts a year or more before the exam.

Medicine has one gate for the whole country. NEET is the single entrance for MBBS, dentistry, AYUSH, veterinary science and B.Sc Nursing. There is no separate management route around it.

Degrees have become longer and more flexible. Under the National Education Policy a bachelor's degree may run four years instead of three, with the fourth year adding research. Teaching now has an integrated four-year route taken straight after Class 12.

Whole careers exist that did not. The part on newer fields lists thirteen fields, most of which were not options when you were choosing. They are reached through ordinary courses among the fifty pathways — but only if the student knows to aim at them.

Diploma and ITI have changed status. Lateral entry means a diploma holder joins the second year of an engineering degree, reaching the same qualification in the same total time with three years of practical training on top. This is not a detour any more.
