Utility work is steady and essential, and it has no patience for shortcuts.

You liked the electricity chapters in Physics, and you are careful and rule-following by nature. If you also enjoy logic and fault-finding, the automation side teaches you to program the controllers that make a factory run itself.

You are more likely to be in a substation, on a rooftop or beside a control panel than in an office: testing equipment, taking readings, wiring and commissioning, attending to faults. In substation work, shift duty and night call-outs are normal.

Much of this sector is government — KPTCL, BESCOM and the other electricity supply companies, the railways and PSUs — and entry is usually through a recruitment exam, not a campus interview. Check that your college has working panels and controllers, not only slides.
