Electrician Trade

This is one of the few qualifications that open a door in the first year, not the fourth.

You stay calm when something has stopped and people are waiting on you, and you keep to safety rules even when nobody is watching. On the wiring side, neatness, a head for ladders and an easy way with customers matter too.

In a factory you look after motors, control panels and machines: inspection, preventive maintenance, and breakdown work in shifts. On a building site you pull wire through conduit and wire everything from the meter to the last switch.

Electricity is unforgiving of shortcuts, and the early years usually mean shift work. Choose a DGT-affiliated ITI so the certificate is nationally recognised, and take the apprenticeship seriously — that is where most permanent jobs come from. Later, the certificate can take you into the second year of an Electrical diploma.
