Retail promotes from within faster than almost any other field.

You genuinely like talking to strangers and can stay pleasant at the end of a long shift. You take pride in doing small things exactly right, whether that is a guest's table, a client's nails or a shelf display.

Standing for most of a shift on a shop floor, at a hotel front desk or in a salon, through weekends, festivals and evenings. You work when other people are free, so your days off are usually not weekends.

This work is dismissed as unskilled, though it is not, and the hours will cost you family occasions. Before enrolling, make sure the course is NSQF-aligned and the training centre places you in a real hotel or restaurant, then pick an employer that actually trains and promotes.
