Social-work practice is usually recognised through an MSW, taken after this degree.

Practical as well as compassionate, you work through paperwork and institutions without giving up, and you listen more than you instruct. You stay steady around illness and poverty, and keep going after a project stalls.

In development work: field visits, long meetings, patient relationship-building and a surprising volume of reporting for donors and governments. In a hospital you plan discharges and link families to welfare schemes; in a factory's HR team you handle grievances and negotiate with unions.

Development work runs on project funding, so jobs are often contracts that end when a grant does; field skill of your own and one hard skill, such as data or a language, protect you. Human resources, where many graduates land, is a real career, and CSR teams hire from this background.
