Much of this work is for the government, which hires by exam and posts you to villages.
Villages, fields and long days outdoors suit you better than an office, and you can explain a technical idea to someone with no formal education. Patience counts: with field crops, results arrive one season at a time.
Field visits, demonstration plots, farmer meetings and office reporting; government agricultural officers spend much of the week in villages. Horticulture adds nurseries and orchards, dairy science a processing plant that never stops, fisheries hatcheries and water testing.
Prepare for the recruitment exam from your first year; the students who pictured a city office are the ones who leave. Karnataka works in your favour: it has a separate horticulture department, a large cooperative dairy network and the largest share of India's mulberry silk.
