A plain B.Com is a container; what you put in it decides where you land.

Careful, patient with detail and not put off by routine: the finance side needs that, and reliable arithmetic rather than brilliance at mathematics. If people interest you more than ledgers, marketing and HR sit in the same degree.

In finance, a typical first job is accounts executive: recording transactions in accounting software, reconciling bank accounts, filing GST returns, closing the books each month. Two or three years of doing that accurately teaches more than the degree does. In marketing, almost everyone starts in sales, carrying a target.

India turns out enormous numbers of commerce graduates, and a plain B.Com does not set you apart. What you add does: CA alongside, as many students take it, an MBA or M.Com, or real skill with accounting software, spreadsheets and GST filing.
