What a degree opens

A degree in any subject opens doors that Class 12 did not — several of them have nothing to do with what you studied.

  • Defence Services via CDS — pathway 27 — UPSC CDS exam after a bachelor degree — the Indian Military Academy and OTA take any graduate; the Naval and Air Force Academies need an engineering degree or Physics and Maths at Class 12
  • Chartered Accountancy — pathway 30 — Direct Entry to CA Intermediate for graduates — 55% for commerce graduates, 60% for others — skipping the Foundation exam
  • Banking & Finance — pathway 32 — IBPS PO, SBI PO and RBI Grade B exams after a bachelor degree in any discipline — the degree can be in any subject, not only commerce
  • Cost & Management Accountancy (CMA) — pathway 35 — Direct entry to CMA Intermediate for graduates in any discipline, skipping Foundation
  • Civil Services (IAS/IPS) — pathway 37 — UPSC CSE
  • Law (LLB) — pathway 38 — 3-year LLB after a bachelor degree in any discipline — admission through state law CETs or university entrance, with the same Bar Council enrolment afterwards
  • Teaching — B.Ed and D.El.Ed — pathway 49 — B.Ed: 2 years after a bachelor degree with about 50%, usually in a science, social science, humanities or commerce subject you can teach, then TET or CTET before you can be appointed
  • Physical Education & Sports (BPES / B.P.Ed) — pathway 50 — B.P.Ed: 2 years after a bachelor degree — NCTE asks for physical education as a degree subject, or any degree with participation in recognised sports
  • A master's degree in your subject (M.Sc, MA, M.Com, M.Tech) — CUET PG, GATE, JAM or university entrance
  • MBA / PGDM — CAT, KMAT or Karnataka PGCET
  • Degree-level government exams — SSC CGL, KPSC and other state recruitment
